A major step to higher educational standards, international recognition and more graduates for North Kent’s economy, the Universities at Medway campus is now home to the universities of Greenwich, Kent and Canterbury Christ Church and MidKent College who together offer a wide range of courses to over 6,000 students. The new MidKent College campus at Chatham Maritime saw the relocation of the college to Chatham Maritime in 2010.
In Dartford, SusCon - a new sustainable construction centre - opened in 2011 to provides training for the sustainable construction sector.
North West Kent College has also recently opened its new Gravesend campus and has enhanced facilities at its Dartford campus.
A key driver for developing the area’s capacity in knowledge sectors is the Kent Science Park in Swale where the development of the Kent Science Resource Centre provides skills training facilities for the pharmaceuticals and biotechnology sectors. The Swale Skills Centre is an important facility designed to deliver vocational training in engineering and sustainable technologies to students aged 14 and up, and bespoke courses and apprenticeship programmes for businesses.
