Business Parks and Innovation Centres
With 6,500 new jobs already created at the highly-successful Crossways Business Park in Dartford, the nearby mixed-use development at The Bridge also has 1.5million sq. ft. of business space, and the potential for a further 7,500 jobs.
Already a North Kent icon, Bluewater is also a retail management centre of excellence and its Learning Shop offers on-line learning opportunities to the local community and businesses. Bluewater is itself undergoing significant expansion with the redevelopment of the West Village to provide an additional 30,500 m2 of commercial space complementing the 5,200 m2 Glow events venue opened in 2011.
A variety of new centres for innovative business have also emerged, including The Nucleus and The Base in Dartford, Innovation Centre Medway at Chatham and The Joiners Shop for creative industries in Chatham's Historic Dockyard. Work is underway to link these with other business centres in Kent to create an Innovation Corridor.
Investments have also been made to Sittingbourne's Kent Science Park, where additional commercial space is expected to bring another 400 jobs to the area by 2014, and to the Eurolink Business Park which already provides 6,500 jobs and, when Phase 5 (a further 42,000 m2) is complete, will provide a further 1,000 jobs.
Other business parks include Gillingham and Kemsley Park; information about several other major business parks can be found via Locate In Kent. The Medway City Estate has its own social networking site to encourage the community feel that has developed on many Medway business parks.
