Our vision for North Kent is to:
develop an area of exciting waterside towns and cities with a world-class environment and a real civic pride that provides an international exemplar of urban renaissance.
The area has many outstanding assets – its heritage, countryside,
riverside, town centres, and people with a strong identity and pride in
their communities.
It also has superb potential – an excellent location on strategic routes
near major UK and European markets, many large areas of ‘brownfield’
land, rapidly-developing infrastructure, diversifying commercial
capacity, and a supportive framework of public policy.
These strengths, allied to a firm will at national, regional and local
levels to make things happen, mean that North Kent and Medway now
has a unique opportunity to become one of the most vibrant and
prosperous areas in the South East, with the potential for some 80,000
new jobs and 50,000 new homes over a 20 year period.
To achieve this vision of truly sustainable communities we will strive for strong employment-led growth, combined with investment in infrastructure and an inclusive approach to integrating the new with the old…
Strong growth in the capacity of the area’s economy to support a rapidly-growing population is the key to developing North Kent’s role - particularly in knowledge-based industries - as a dynamic centre alongside London.
Investing in infrastructure and people must play a central part in enabling growth, encouraging more sustainable forms of living, and transforming the environment and image of this area.
Enabling existing communities to share fully in the new opportunities that growth can bring is equally important, to foster inclusion, improve life-chances and ensure that the full potential of local people is developed and harnessed.
